She writes me after reading some posts of mine, and I can feel the hurt wrapped in her letters and words. Lonely and left out, she asks me,
“What do you think is my problem? Is there any hope for me?”
My heart aches for or her, for all of us. Because haven’t we all asked this before? When something goes wrong – expectations fall short or a relationship heads south – don’t all of us look inside and whisper?
What is my problem?
Why can’t I get this to work?
Really, it’s just hopeless.
No matter your age, in a blink you can be in 7th grade again where being “in” is here and gone or never to be had in the first place. You believe you’re too this or not enough that, and until you get your act together and change you’ll never be invited to sit at the cool table.
The world insists on racking and stacking and we can get swept along in the tide. But in these times of facebook friends and twitter followers and more is more and better, Jesus shreds the lists and looks into your eyes and says, “Placing your worth in anything but Me is never worth it.”
“Entering into this fullness is not something you figure out or achieve. It’s not a matter of being circumcised or keeping a long list of laws. No, you’re already in—insiders—not through some secretive initiation rite but rather through what Christ has already gone through for you, destroying the power of sin.” ~ Colossians 2: 11-12 The Message
You’re already in.
And then all the girls breathe a sigh of relief as hope-gone turns to hope-dawn.
And I am surprised to learn being “in” is not something to achieve but something to receive.

Kristen,
I like all your lines, but I especially love, “Being “in” is not something to achieve; it’s something to receive.” Jesus has done it all. We’re “in”. Thank you for the reminder…I need it often…that we don’t need to get swept up in the comparison game, nor do we find our worth in whether the world will let us sit at their lunch table or not. You speak words of truth!!
Love you girl,
Bev

God bless you, Kristen. You always provide beautiful encouragement, and I know this is one of those reminders many of us need over and over again. Placing our worth in anything but Him is never worth it!!! {Hugs}
