I came home, opened my laptop, and discovered this simple, super-sized message on my keyboard that made me cry. To be missed is to be loved and to belong.

And it made me think about who I could reach out to with a “Miss you!” so they know they’re loved and belong, too.

I don’t keep up with the NBA at all and only kne

I don’t keep up with the NBA at all and only knew of Kobe Bryant as a great basketball player. However, when I stood in the kitchen as the news of that terrible crash flashed on my phone, my heart sank to my ankles. I immediately thought of his wife, daughter Gianna’s mom, and I told David her new reality is my worst nightmare. I thought of the other folks who died and how their families are suffering today, including Matt Mauser, husband of another passenger on that helicopter, basketball coach Christina Mauser.

While sharing about Christina on the Today Show, Matt echoed something one of their children told him,

“It was nice to know that everyone was hurting along with us. It sounds odd, but it does kind of help.”
.
Author @jenniferdukeslee wrote today that:

“Grieving is a communal act. We weren’t meant to be sad all by ourselves.”
.
One of the hardest life changes is losing one you deeply loved, let alone more than one at the same time. As you and I pray for all those who lost a loved one yesterday, may those prayers help ease their hurt.
