Hello, dearheart!
Well, with no more Strong kids in school and with all our big graduations in the rear view mirror, my month of May is a little slower paced than it used to be. That is, I get to enjoy it rather than endure it cuz I’m not running hither and yon with All the School Things! And what a treat to not have to help someone move out of a dorm or apartment this month as well!
Anyhoo, what I am doing is sending out this month’s edition of These Are a Few of My Favorite Things: A More Moderate May.
First things first, though. On this Memorial Day weekend, I’m especially thinking about and thankful for our American military service members who gave up everything so we can be given everything. In the words of actor Joe Mantegna, “This is our most important holiday because it’s the holiday that lets us have all the other holidays.” Well said.
Alrighty, here we go!
These Are a Few of My Favorite Things: A More Moderate May 🌼
“The Author” Song: This song, co-written by Brandon Lake and Nick Jonas, is a new favorite of mine. Nick Jonas has been on my radar since my daughter fell in love with the Jonas Brothers several years ago. I really like Brandon Lake’s music, too, so this collab is a total win in my book!
Mandarin Orange and Grape Chicken Salad: Yep, I’ve shared this recipe before, but it’s worth sharing again! My daughter’s in town right now (YAY!👏), and we ate some of it just last night!
Enchilada Stuffed Sweet Potatoes: I made these last week, and my good fella loved them! I did too.
Gracelaced Bible: Good golly, this is the prettiest Bible I’ve ever laid eyes on. With Ruth Chou Simons’ signature artwork on the outside and within its pages, this Gracelaced Journaling Bible is a feast for the eyes and the soul. This would make a great gift!
Garden Gloves: I somehow lost my garden gloves, so I bought these as a replacement. I’ve had them in a bunch of fertilizer-y soil several times since purchasing them, and so far they’ve held up very well! I wear a size Medium.
Hummingbird Feeder: I managed to lose one of my hummingbird feeders over winter, which means I put it somewhere new but can’t remember where. (Probably next to my missing garden gloves). So, I bought this one. It’s beautiful, sturdy, and it would make a great gift! You can choose from several colors and patterns, too.
Cotton Terry Robe: I love a robe that is really a towel with arms and a belt! I can slip it on after a shower and feel all comfy while rubbing on my face and body potions and lotions. Right now, it’s over 60% off!
Sheet/cake pan with lid: I really ordered this because I needed something to transport a lot of deviled eggs a couple of weeks ago. BUT I also love to bake, so I see this getting used for cakes and what not. It’s sturdy, a pretty color, and its accompanying lid is handier than a pocket on a shirt!
The Madison: Great day, did my man and I ever LOVE this show. It stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell among others, and they’re both FANTASTIC in it (that really goes double for Michelle). This show is another brain child of Taylor Sheridan, BUT it’s definitely a different (less gritty) side of Taylor. This one has much more heart, much less violence. I don’t know how to describe the plot without giving away a big spoiler, so click the link above to learn more. But I will say the central storyline is about a happy marriage, and that’s a nice thing to watch.
Maya Chia Pressed Serum: I first heard about this from Sophie or Melanie on the Big Boo Cast. And listen, Maya Chia doesn’t give their products away. In other words, they are pricey. But daggum, this one is GOOD, not to mention it smells AMAZING. As someone with mature skin and hyperpigmentation, I love this stuff! And a little goes a long way, even in dry Colorado.
May Jersey Short Dress: If I must endure hot flashes, at least I can look pretty while doing so. Truth be told, I’m in athlesure/workout gear most days of the week, but every whipstitch I have a date with my man or a dinner out with friends and want to bring my A game! This dress is so well made, as are all Boden’s dresses. It is cute and comfy and looks great with sandals, wedges, or sneakers. I LOVE it! I’m 5’10” and the 8 Tall fits me perfectly.
Also:🚨 Boden’s website is offering a 30% sale right now! Should that not be visible on the website by the time you read this, I also received a card in the mail that it is having a Memorial Day sale of 25% off everything with the code 3PPA.
Gingham Pillow Covers (Set of 2): After 10 years of solid service, I had to throw away my old porch pillows because they had really faded. I bought these earlier this month, and they’re fantastic! They look cute and are really well made. The pillow inserts I use for them can be found here. I bought the red and white, but they come in several other colors, too.
OPI Cajun Shrimp Nail Polish: When my daughter is in town, we have a tradition of getting our nails done together. When we did so yesterday, I tried a new-to-me color: OPI’s Cajun Shrimp. I love it because it is a red that looks both great with red, orange, AND pink. Magic!
That’s all for this weekend, m’dear. May you and yours have a very grateful Memorial Day. 🇺🇸
Much love,
Kristen
