This week, I have the honor of visiting a couple of my favorite online places, both Ann Voskamp’s front porch and the (in)courage community.
First up to bat: Ann Voskamp’s. If you want a subtitle for the article there, it *might* be this: That time I almost left my family over a dog.
Yes, I’m exaggerating and being dramatic. But also yes, it was a whole thing. Because you see, when your twin sons leave for college, their little sister has a Texas-sized hole in her heart because of it, and really, your whole house feels positively cavernous without two-thirds of your children within its walls, well. . . you let your husband and daughter talk you into getting a new puppy. And this decision leads to just a bit of mayhem.
But even more so, you end up realizing the importance of naming losses when they come, and in the process acknowledging the very real change in your lives.
Also, here is a photo of Ann and me from when I met her for the first time at a conference in 2010. Aren’t we babies?!? I asked her to sign my copy of One Thousand Gifts, which had just released or was soon releasing. (And now it has a 10 year anniversary edition!)
Second, I’m the featured author at (in)courage’s Recommended Reads, talking about when difficult change brings anxiety, and we just need it to simmer on down. I share a story about how on an unsuspecting summer afternoon, my daughter and I met a scary (slithery!) realty that caused us both to scream like we were on fire.
And yes, while we both survived the ordeal, it reminded me that a sudden hard change can bring anything from dread to a good scare to major harm. It may bring instant panic or simmering stress,
Yet, while change may come out of nowhere, so can help too.
Also, join myself and Becky, our extraordinary (in)courage community manager, TOMORROW, Wednesday at 11am MST, for a Facebook live on (in)courage’s Facebook page. We’l chat it up more about change!
Also? Preorder bonuses are STILL available! Get ’em while you can!
One last thing: Book club news!
While it’ll be officially announced Thursday, I want to let y’all know right now: The book club for When Change Finds You on Instagram will be starting at noon MST on October 28th. It will be on Instagram, so if you’re interested in joining and not on Instagram, go ahead and make an account here. If you’re on Instagram but we’re not yet connected there, you can take care of that here. That way, you can catch all the details as they’re rolled out.
That’s all for now, dearheart. . . may this fall day treat you like the treasure you are. xo
