Helloooo, dearheart! Good golly, the temps are expected to drop mighty low in Colorado Springs just as they are for so many of you! But unlike many of you, we’re not expecting too much snow, although that could change. Wherever you are, perhaps my latest “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things: Winter Is Wintering” will be a fun list to peruse inside whilst the weather whirls outside!
These Are a Few of My Favorite Things
Creamy Chicken Wild Rice Soup: My daughter introduced me to this recipe when she was home for Christmas and requested I make it. I happily obliged, and it was delicious!
Cranberry Pot Roast: I made this last week but with a couple of changes. First of all, I substituted a combo of frozen/dried cherries for the cranberries because I didn’t have cranberries. Second, I didn’t have any red wine but had cherry juice. (Can you tell we love cherries ’round here??) The recipe was delicious with both substitutions! Oh–one more thing: I omitted the baby potatoes and instead scooped the roast over baked sweet potatoes. Delish!
The Story She Left Behind by Pattie Callahan Henry: PCH is one of my favorite fiction writers, and this historical fiction book is a TREASURE. I’m only halfway through it, but I count down the minutes till I get to pick it up to read again. GORGEOUS writing and storytelling that culminate in a real page turner.
Cast Iron Skillet Pan: Have it and love it! It marvelously cooks up cornbread and other goodies to accompany those winter soups!
Mary Ruth’s Women’s Multivitamin + Hair Growth: Lately, my hair has been shedding enough to make me think a long-haired cat lives inside our house. 😂 Also, my nails have really thinned. HOWEVER, my hairdresser, Kellie, originally told me about this product, and it has definitely helped both problems! At my last visit, Kellie said she could tell my hair was thicker and filling in, too. I’ll say it is a little pricey, but right now it’s on sale, too.
Bottle Brush: I know…plugging a bottle brush is as dull as it gets! But it’s a darn fine bottle brush if you’re in the need of one! I also use this to clean some of my reusable straws, and it’s fantastic.
The Bible Recap: A One Year Guide to Reading and Understanding the Entire Bible: I made a goal to read the Bible through this year, and this is a fantastic companion for accomplishing that. Each day’s reading first includes the recommended portion of Scripture. Second, it includes a fantastic summary of the day’s Scripture reading. I LOVE author Tara-Leigh Cobble’s insights and so look forward to my time in the Word each day!
Wooden Stool: I bought this to put under a smaller Christmas tree in our house. If you’re looking for a little added height under a houseplant or another household object, these work great. And it’s cute to boot! I don’t think I’d use it as a step stool for anyone older than a child though.
Gold Wall Picture Frame: We bought our daughter two beautiful art prints as part of her graduation gift, and we presented them to her in these frames. They’re so pretty! I linked to one that’s 8 X 10, but there’s several sizes to choose from!
One Line a Day Memory Book: I know I’ve linked to this before, but it’s been a while! If you’d like to be more intentional with journaling this new year but don’t feel you have the time, this is a great option because you can write just one simple thing that happens each day. This makes a great gift, too. (Throw in my favorite pens with it if you’d like!)
LED High Power Rechargeable Video Conference Light: Last month, I was up before the sun for an early podcast interview. And thanks to the darling Kirst and Jen of Wives of the Armed Forces who recommended this to me, I could still conduct the video interview with a good amount of light. If you sometimes have zoom calls or video chats before or after the sun is awake, you might like this too.
Substack: If you missed it, I’m on Substack now! If you’re unfamiliar with Substack, it’s basically the new place to do old-timey blogging, which is why I’m loving it over there. If you’d like to follow my writing there, simply subscribe here and my posts will be delivered directly to your inbox for FREE. You’ll also have access to those I’ve already written.
That’s all for now! May you have plenty of warm blankets and beverages to keep you cozy this weekend!
Much love,
Kristen
