Howdy, and happy August, friends!
The “howdy” is cuz I recently returned from College Station, TX, where howdy is a whole thang.
In all honesty, I’ve certainly been known to say “howdy” before I had an Aggie in the family.
Anyhoo, I have a hodgepodge collection of “These are a Few of My Favorite Things” for you today! I send these out once a month with the overall goal of giving you a few tools to help make your life a little easier as well as your traditions more enjoyable. (I do earn a small commission from each purchase, but that’s at no additional cost to the purchase price or to you.)
So, onward and upward with this month’s list!
These are a few of my favorite things:
Avalon Organics Lavender Lotion: My favorite kind of lotion is Hummingbird Farms’ lavender body cream. I still buy it from time to time, but this Avalon Organics lotion is wonderful as well and at a good price point!
Backpack: Last fall, I began hunting for a new backpack for travel because the one I’d used for the past 10 years fell right apart. I found this one and have taken it on many a trip this past year. It has a million pockets that make it easy for me to organize all the things. Plus, it easily fits my laptop, too. It comes in an abundance of colors and has already served me quite well!
Potent Vitamin C: I’ve added this to my “These are a Few of My Favorite Things” list before, but with kids back in school, I find it’s worth mentioning again. My sister, Sara, who is wise about homeopathic things, says it’s the best kind of vitamin C to take because our bodies absorb it so well. Keep it handy for when the cooties come callin’–or to prevent them from doing so!
Cotton Turkish Towels: My girl was in desperate need of new towels for this new school year, and I wanted to get her some that were substantial yet inexpensive. Enter these! They weren’t the softest towels right out of the box, BUT they did soften up a good deal after I washed and dried them. Anyway, they’re a great price for the entire set and come in many colors. With thousands of positive reviews, I’m not the only one who likes them!
Purely Elizabeth Granola: Great day, do I ever love this granola. I throw a little in my yogurt every morning and just gobble it right up. This, this, and this are some of my favorite flavors!
All My Knotted-Up Life by Beth Moore: I treated myself to Ms. Beth’s memoir after wrapping up a big project. And wowzers, this book didn’t disappoint. I’ll always have an appreciation for Beth because God used her Bible studies from 2001 onward to really build my faith. While watching her teaching videos, I thought, “I want her kind of passion for God and His Word!” Without a doubt, she’s a writer and Bible teacher that brings me closer to Jesus.
And this book? Well, the writing and storytelling is fantastic, and I just loved it.
Kut from the Kloth White Shorts: I know summer’s about over. But since large parts of the country are still suffering in 3 digit temps, I thought I’d include these. I bought them last month on sale, and I LOVE them. I did have to size up, though.
David Nevue’s In the Soft Light of Grace: If you read Ann Voskamp’s blog in ye olden days of 2012(ish) and before, her blog’s soundtrack was David Nevue’s piano music. This is a newly released album that I love to write to because it’s calm and soothing.
Zach Bryan’s new album: Yep, I just gave myself whiplash going from David Nevue to Zach Bryan. But alas, I’m a woman of contrasting tastes. Anyhoo, Zach Bryan is from Oklahoma like me, and man oh man am I a fan of his country music. Some of his songs have a bad word or two, so if that ain’t your thing, then skip on over this one. And it goes without saying that if country music ain’t your thing, well…never mind this favorite thing altogether! But this brand new album of his is one I’ll continue to enjoy.
Melanie Shankle’s Game Day Clothes: I love Melanie Shankle’s style–she often shares cute clothing options for us gals in our 40’s and 50’s (and beyond, really). She recently did a set of stories on Instagram featuring several clothing options grouped by colors upon colors. If you want to wear the color of your favorite team/alma mater in something besides a jersey or T-shirt, Melanie gives some fun options! Did I thoroughly check out all items in the following colors?
- Bright orange for my alma mater, Oklahoma State. (Go Pokes!)
- Green for Colorado State, my sons’ alma mater. (Go Rams!)
- Maroon for Texas A&M, my daughter’s college. (Go Aggies!)
- Blue for USAFA, where my husband works. (Go Falcons!)
Yes, yes I did.
Did I buy a couple of things? No…not yet. Emphasis on the not yet. 🙂
And on that note, may your own favorite college football team come out on top this weekend, and may you look real cute when they do.
Much love,
Kristen
