Well, I’m sitting outside today where it’s 72 degrees right now (glory!!), and I’m eating it up with a serving spoon. It feels like a dream for the senses outside, so I thought I’d wrestle up some favorite things for you to listen to, eat, watch, read, as well as things to wear and use. Enjoy, dearhearts! And may spring continue to spring in your neck of the woods (and mine).
These Are a Few of My Favorite Things
Ham and Swiss Quiche: This is SO GOOD. I use pre-made frozen “deep dish” pie crusts for this, and the brand I buy always comes in a 2-pack. So, I make two quiches by adding 3 eggs to this recipe. By and large, I keep all the other ingredient amounts the same. It makes just enough for 2 quiches!
Masters of the Air: This television series, produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, is essentially Band of Brothers but up in the sky. It follows the 100th Bomber Group who–in the words of one of the show’s stars, Callum Turner–saved the world and paved the way for the Allies to successfully invade on D-Day. Gosh, the show is spectacular…intense at times, certainly, but spectacularly done. I loved the way it portrays friendship between the fellas as well as stories from some of the famed (and AMAZING) Tuskegee Airmen. Also, as my friend and military spouse, Kristin Vanderlip said, it doesn’t shy away from the emotions and trauma experienced by the air crews as they returned to the fight over and over again.
As a side note, my grandpa was a gunner on bombers during WWII, and this show gave me an even greater appreciation for all he must’ve endured.
Orchestral Soundtracks: My favorites to listen to right now, especially whilst writing, are soundtracks from (surprise!) Masters of the Air by Blake Neely and The Gilded Age, Season 2 by Harry and Rupert Gregson-Williams.
Tinted Sunscreen: On a lot of days, I put this and only this on as my face foundation makeup and call it good. It provides great sun protection with a bit of coverage that evens out my skin tone. A win-win!
Maybelline Mascara: I know I’ve talked about this mascara before, but there ain’t no harm in mentioning it again! I use this mascara and only this mascara, and I love it! A good deal for the price point.
Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara: Confession: When I originally mentioned this book on Instagram, I called it Aggressive Hospitality.🤣 Indeed, it is not called that because, obviously, aggressive hospitality doesn’t really sound hospitable. Anyway, Unreasonable Hospitality is a deLIGHT. It’s a book about how the author came to own a Michelin three star restaurant that was ranked one of the best in the world. However, the book is really about leadership, not the restaurant industry. I adored it.
iPhone Tripod: Since my old tripod broke, I ordered this one because it had good ratings. I’ve already used it a few times for work videos, and it’s worked great! It sets up nicely on my counter top for pictures or video, or it can be extended up to 62″. This one can be extended to 67″.
Dr. Mary Claire Haver on Instagram: Listen, your girl here is dealing with some peri-menopause, which is especially mean because my period still shows up every month like clockwork. Alas, it is what it is. Thankfully, I do not suffer without hope! I’m so thankful for Dr. Mary-Claire Haver, who, among other things, is a board-certified Obstetrics and Gynecology specialist and a Certified Menopause Practitioner from The Menopause Society! Her instagram feed is a gold mine for women in this life stage.
Good Boundaries and Goodbyes: Loving Others Without Losing the Best of Who You Are by Lisa Terkeurst: I’ve only begun this book, but I can tell it will be a favorite read from this year. In this book, In this generous book, Lisa shares what she’s learned through thousands of hours of counseling intensives as well as extensive theological research to help us have healthy relationships. If what I’ve already read is any indication, my copy will have more underlined portions than portions not underlined.
Peanut Butter Cup ONE Protein Bars: I love several of the ONE bar flavors, but these are my favorite! ONE bars are nice because, in my humble opinion, they taste better than other protein bars. Here’s the same flavor in the crunch variety. I’ve also found them at several grocery stores, including HEB stores in Texas.
That’s all for today, folks! Have a most marvelous weekend!
Much love,
K
