Pie fixes everything {except for my waistline}. It gives an excuse to slow and sit down. It fills my need for a sweet treat whilst enjoying sweet conversation. It’s the perfect means to an end.
So when long-time friends stop by, I serve up apple pie and Blue Bell ice cream. {Which is the best tasting ice cream in the country, if you don’t count Braum’s. Word.} We dish about military life, kids, and memories. Our friendship spans over ten years now, although we haven’t seen one another in over four. But the way we talk and share? You’d think we hung out the day before. In no time flat, comfortable familiarity takes over as if no time passed at all.
We eat apple pie, but I taste heaven. Because sometimes, coming together transcends time.
When heaven’s gate opens and we see our loved ones face-to-face, it will be as if no time passed at all. In an instant, those separated by time and space will be connected by love and grace. We will pick right back up where we left off as time melts. And in this, I taste a little heaven on earth.
Do you ever taste a little heaven on earth?
Michele@From the Unpaved Road says
Each time I walk right out of my door and my little guys become mama-seeking projectiles to attack me with hugs and giggles. And I see Jesus in their eyes. So come to think of it, we have quite a lot of heaven in these parts, even without the pie. Hugs from here!

Don’t we though, Michele? Hugs to you, too!

I know what you mean about the deep connections, unhindered by passing time. I have an old friend coming to visit in a few weeks – can’t wait for the talks and the time together, full of rich memories. A tiny piece of heaven, yes.
Kristen says
It certainly is, Maureen. Enjoy your time with your friend. xo

I love this thought, Kristen. I’ve often wondered if, because God exists outside of time and is not confined by our linear calendar, perhaps when we get to heaven, all of our loved ones who passed before and after are already there. So there is no waiting for them in heaven like there is here on earth. Ah, I let my heart go there because it brings me comfort. I could be spinning tall tales. But who knows – the mysteries of God are great. And he is good! Blessings to you today! Sure wish I could taste that pie.
Kristen says
So well said, Becky. Let’s do pie sometime, k? God bless and keep you and yours.

Oh home girl. You did not leave me a comment on my blog…squeal! I have loved visiting here for a long time, so when I saw your name I got all excited :)!

Your space is just beautiful, Amy, just like you. Love you dear!

I have a feeling you are exactly right about being reunited with loved ones after this life. Having recently lost my grandmother (one of the finest women I’ve ever known), I anticipate that day.
