When I hear the front door latch turn and the clomp-clomp of combat boots on wood floors, I know my man is home. And after a kiss and a “Hey baby. How was your day?” I can count on him shooting me a second question:

“Did you talk to anybody today?”

And I’m sure-fire certain he likes it when I answer yes, because then he knows his verbose wife won’t barrage him with a torrent of words. Because for every 1000 words my man speaks, I speak about 5ooo. Ish. He also insists that when I’ve been able to talk with other people during the day, I’m in a happier mood. And apparently, happier Kristen is more fun to live with.

Which is why he was totally down with me having people over for a tea party, an (in)RL tea party.

I sure love me some pretty decorations!

Friends I’ve known for a long time and for just a little while came over Saturday. We talked and laughed and encouraged and ate goodies and drank tea. I got to use up at least 20,000 words all within a few hours!

This is me with Trisha and Audra. Trisha is a lovely friend I’ve known since Maui. Her family must think the Strongs are stalking them because we’ve followed them on the last four moves. Crazy! And I was introduced to Audra only recently by our mutual friend Jessica {a.k.a. the girl who knows everyone on God’s green earth}. Audra used to live in Nashville but moved to Colorado Springs about  year ago. Nashville’s loss is Colorado’s gain~Audra is beautiful and just as sweet as she can be.

These are three of my four home girls. Our kids all go to the same school and we do Bible study together. Raquel {on the left} has the sweetest disposition EVER and is as warm as they come. Rebecca has been my beautiful BFF since the Albuquerque days, and I would be a complete mess without her. When a parenting dilemma finds me, I usually ask myself, “What would Rebecca do?” Denise {on the right} is one of the smartest gals I’ve ever met, and she is a talented writer, too. Michelle is also in our posse, but I didn’t get this picture ’til after she left. Boo on me. Michelle is one of those wonders who is the ultimate get-the-job-done-er. Another great example of mom, wife, and friend.

It was so fun to have hometown girl Sally at my casa. I’ve read her books and her blog for quite sometime, and she is just about the best mom-encourager out there. If you ever start to feel mothering is unglamorous and nothing special, drop everything and read Sally. In one fell swoop, she’ll show you how this mothering thing is the holiest of callings *and* make you feel like a rock star. Lisa, another Albuquerque bestie, took this photo, and I realize I forgot to get a picture with her, too. Double boo on me. Lisa, whose husband has been deployed more times than I can count, is a mix of spice and joy. She’s the effervescent lightbulb to any soiree, and I just love her.

Part of our time was spent watching video content prepared by the (in)courage writers and DaySpring folks. And because DaySpring is chock full of the awesome sauce, they are packaging a 2 DVD disc set and study booklet over here.  They will be available May 14th with a special discount code for all (in)RL attendees.

Kinda cool, dontcha think?

The only bummer part of the day was that *you* couldn’t join us. Maybe next time, k?

Have a wonderful week, girlfriends. I sure love and appreciate each and every one of you reader-darlings. You are the best and then some!

    Kristen,
I was only able to catch a little bit of the fun on Friday and Saturday, but I must say you are a sweetheart. I guess I can watch the videos on my own time, right? Oh, and I love love love the way you decorated. Turquoise is my favorite!

      Thank you, Christina!

I’m becoming quite the turquoise fan myself! And yes, if you get the videos you can watch whatever you want whenever you want. It’s like having your cake and eating it too. Ha!

Awesome! I didn’t realize that I could have “gone” without being tied in to the time schedule posted on incourage. I said “no” because of the time difference here in Alaska, which would not have worked for me this weekend, and never registered. Ah well, next time I’ll be more aware!

Thank you, Jen! Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to making your *adorable* pinwheels. BUT my daughter’s birthday is just around the corner, and those are on the list! Love you, friend.

This week brought to you by family heart-to-hearts This week brought to you by family heart-to-hearts around the fireplace, tulips on the table, and my first trip of the year to the garden store.

Never underestimate the ministry of flowers for you and your family.

"Home is never simply a threshold you cross. It is a place you make and a place that might make—or unmake—you. In this halfway space, we would begin to learn the costs of stepping into the role God first gave in a garden: to be, like Adam and Eve, the makers and caretakers of a particular place."

In this particular case, I thought I had foreseen every possible problem. I took measures to ensure the best possible outcome. I’m not talking about anything outlandish or expensive. Rather, I used good ol’ hard work and productivity to take care of things responsibly.

And then came the turn of events only God saw coming, and all my forethought and “responsible planning” didn’t amount to a hill of beans. I didn't asked for or want this outcome, but it was what I had.

Yeah, it's easier for me to daily assess the risk of doing something than to lean into trust.

I write more about this at my second online writing home, @incourage. Visit the link in my profile to read more. 💛

Remember my post from a few weeks ago about our fr Remember my post from a few weeks ago about our friend Ryan, a USAF vet, who lost all all feeling and control from mid chest down due to a sudden spinal stroke?

This is his wife, Rebecca, and she is one of my dearest friends in the whole wide world.

Sometimes when a change comes that turns our world upside down, God works through others to turn it right side up again.

This gal has surely been a turn-the-world-right-side-up gal in my life, and now I'd love it if *we* could help do the same for her.

As Ryan undergoes physical therapy and rehab in the spinal cord unit of the VA hospital in Denver, we would like to help Ryan and Rebecca defray the many costs not covered by insurance following this spinal stroke, such as:

▫️Outfitting Ryan and Rebecca’s home for needs regarding Ryan’s limited mobility.
▫️An outfitted vehicle that’s wheelchair accessible.

These needs and several more are on Ryan and Rebecca's own dime, and they cost a shockingly WHOLE LOTTA DIMES.

If you're interested in helping with these needs and/or sharing about it with your people, please check out the link to our fundraiser in my profile.☑️

Swipe to see a pic of Ryan and Rebecca and a pic of the GoFundMe page.

And on behalf of Ryan and Rebecca, thank you for your continued prayers!❤️
