Howdy, one and all!
I’ve just returned from visiting my girl at Texas A&M, and folks down there are mighty partial to saying, “howdy!” So in honor of that, howdy howdy, dearhearts, and Happy Saturday!
This installment of A Few of My Favorite Things is a hodgepodge of goodies that continues to bless me this month. While there are a few exceptions, these are by and large seasonal items that help us build traditions and expand our sense of belonging so we can rest in the good kind of familiarity no matter where our own life changes take us.
So, here we go with this month’s offerings! (And you can click here to visit last year’s October offerings, too!)
Target Perfectly Cozy Jammies: This past spring, I threw out my winter jammies cuz they were in terrible shape, and when I heard Melanie Shankle talk about these, I looked them up and purchased a pair. They arrived right after I caught Covid, and as I told my husband in my curled-up, fever-y state, “These jammies are my best friend.” Y’all, they are so cozy and soft and rather light weight, too. I’m no longer sick (thank the good Lord!), but these jammies are still such a pleasure to put on every evening.
Velvet pillows: This past winter, I bought this set of velvet pillows to replace worn out ones in our master bedroom. They’ve held up beautifully and look like they could’ve been more expensive than they were. I bought mine in chocolate brown, but they come in a bunch of other colors, too!
Chewy Apple-Cran-Oatmeal Cookies: I made these for my community group as well as for Faith when we visited her last week. They are DELICIOUS–almost like baked oatmeal in cookie form. They’re hearty and not too sweet. I think I’m going to make some more to take to my sons when we visit them in November!
Puffed Sleeved T-shirt: I bought this about a month ago, and it fits so well…not tight but still has a little shape. Plus, it’s got these cute sleeves that are puffy enough for style but not so puffy they say prairie. It also comes in an array of colors! Generally speaking, I know it’s getting a little cool for short sleeves, but it also looks cute under a denim jacket.
The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post by Allison Pataki: I mentioned this book in my newsletter last week, but I wanted to mention it here for the historical fiction fans! I devoured this book that’s centered around the life of Post cereal heiress (and later General Foods heiress) Marjorie Post. Marjorie truly lived a fascinating life that took her from humble beginnings to becoming one of the wealthiest women in America. However, Marjorie was known for making her fortune work for her and for others, too. While the end of this book was disappointing in that it wasn’t as in-depth as the rest of the book, nonetheless I still found it to be a captivating historical fiction read from start to finish.
Lightweight Plaid Throw Blanket: Am I even doing a favorite things list this time of year if I don’t include a blanket?!? Ha! Anyhoo, I enjoy this blanket because plaid is so cozy and festive for fall (and winter!). It’s a much lighter weight that a Scottish plaid blanket, BUT it’s much less expensive, too. I also like the tassel details as well!
Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C: My sister, Sara, knows quite a bit about homeopathic medicine, so when David and I came down with the ‘vid and she suggested this for our vitamin C intake, I immediately purchased it. David and I do take Vitamin C on the regular, but this kind is more easily absorbed so more potent. Does it taste good? Nope. But I do think it helped us get over our cooties.
When Change Finds You: 31 Assurances to Settle Your Heart When Life Stirs You Up: Because it came into the world one year ago this month, this book will always be one of my October favorites.
I hope a few of these favorite things bless you or a loved one this week! May y’all have a great last weekend in October!
