Howdy, howdy dearhearts! I’m finally coming in with a “Few of My Favorite Things” for you this month. I write these articles because I love to share (largely) seasonal items that help you build traditions and expand your sense of belonging so you can rest in the good kind of familiarity–wherever your own life changes take you. Also, some of the items will just help you look and feel good whilst building those traditions!
So, here we go with this month’s offerings! (And you can click here to visit last year’s September offerings, too!)
Cozies
DaySpring blanket: This blanket is SO lovely and soft! It’s the first one I grab in our den when we curled up to watch television. That is, it was the first one I grabbed till I let it hitch a ride to Faith’s dorm room in College Station. This is my reminder to order another!
Matchbox Candles: The actual candle burning in my kitchen right now is called Apple Basket. Sadly, I couldn’t find a link for it, but this one also sounds divine! I also bought this Pumpkin Spice candle that smells amazing! The thing about all of Matchbox Candles–at least all of them I’ve smelled– is that their scents are light and will help transport you into the season without the headache from overpowering smells. Yes, please!
Awaken: 90 Days with the God Who Speaks by Priscilla Shirer I’m reading a few devotionals right now, not the least of which is this one right here. I LOVE IT. It is endlessly rich and deep as it speaks into where I am in my life today. Priscilla pulls truth from Scripture and applies it to your life and mine like no other.
Seeing God in the Sweet Ordinary: Art-filled Devotions to Remind You of His Love by Becky Strahle September brought us a bonanza of beautiful newly-released devotionals, and this one is no exception. I’ve followed Becky on instagram for years, and now I’m thrilled to have a copy of her first book in my hands–a feast for the heart and eyes. Brava, Becky!
Yummies
Yogi Pumpkin Spice Tea: I picked this up on a whim yesterday whilst running into Sprouts. I made it earlier today, and I’ll be making it later today too (and tomorrow still). It’s herbal and caffeine free and has a delightfully rich yet light pumpkin-y flavor. LOVE. As I said, you can find it at Sprouts and likely at other grocery stores, too.
Bri’s Pumpkin Chili: I made it last week, and I will make it approximately 23 more times this fall (give or take). It’s my FAVORITE thing to cook every fall.
Goodies
R+Co Biotin Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner: These suggestions come courtesy of Sophie and Melanie of the Big Boo Cast, which is where I get a whole lotta fantastic product suggestions! I’ve used both the shampoo and conditioner for about two weeks now, and I love the way they add volume to my hair. They are more expensive than what I like to pay for shampoo and conditioner. BUT at 48, my hair isn’t as thick as it used to be, and this helps. Plus, a little bit goes a long way!
Birdie Safety Alarm: My good friend, Maria, introduced me to this safety alarm that she bought for herself and her daughter, and then I turned around and did the same for my daughter and myself. According to the Amazon description, “When threatened, activate Birdie’s LOUD siren and flashing strobe-light to create a diversion and to help deter an attack. The alarm is as loud as a jet engine 100 feet overhead!” Y’all, I tested it, and it is LOUD LOUD LOUD. As in, the only thing I could concentrate on after activating it was making the noise stop. It seems like it’d offer a good bit of protection that doesn’t require the accuracy pepper spray does!
Kenra Texturizing Taffy: Yours truly here has amassed a collection of flyaways around her part and the crown of my head. They tend to stick up and look frizzy…or at least they did till my hairdresser, Kelli, introduced me to this lovely find that tames flyaways. It’s sticky yet very light-weight, so it keeps those pesky hairs where I want them (down, not up). The teeniest bit goes a long way, too!
Slip-on Sneakers: I haven’t bought any new clothes lately, but I did buy these for the crazy price of $10 on sale. Right now, they’re only $15–still a great bargain. God bless Target for clothing that looks sharp yet don’t break the bank.
That’s all I have, folks! If you have a special find this season you’d like to share with me, I’d love to hear what it is. Much love, friends!
