Sometimes I imagine God looks down from His heavenly thrown and says to me,
“Girl, you are wearing me out.”
I know He can’t literally be worn out as we know it, but perhaps watching all my running, spinning, chasing and doing is a wearisome thing to behold.
I’m not proud of it, but I can make Martha look like a lazy beach bum.
Be still and know that I am God. I skip the ‘still’ part and multitask my way through the day while believing He is God. At some point, I say yes to too many things, care about pleasing too many people. But here’s the problem: One way or another, my own limitations grind me to a halt, and not without collateral damage. I’m plumb worn out and stretched to the limit, but I bend over backwards to stretch just a bit more. Soon I snap, and it’s those closest to me who feel the sting.
And so when after a long day of tending to things He has not called me to do, I once again place my agenda on the alter, bend my tired knees, and feel the sweet surprise of this message,
It is in the stillness we sense Him guiding and helping.
It is in the stillness we become comfortable with no and uncomfortable with overcommitment.
We don’t need to bend over backwards but bend our ears to Jesus. Because when we do, we accept the still and avoid the snap.
Accept the still and let go of bending over backwards.
Accept the still and and feel your soul sing.

On Thursdays ’round here, we share out of the blue stories. We’ve written about answered prayers, friendship, adventures, gratitude, mistakes, apologies, confidence, goodbyes, special places, and even photos. What surprise you share is up to you~the sky’s the limit! Just tell us how God used something right out of the blue to build your faith, give you joy, or encourage your heart in the midst of your day.
Some things to remember:
1. New to link-up’s or have questions about out of the blue? Read this first.
2. Since we all dig surprises, please surprise another writer by leaving a comment on her post *or* by giving her a facebook shout-out or tweet. Use the hashtag: #outoftheblue.
3. Be sure to include the out of the blue banner {see above} in your post or link back to Chasing Blue Skies so your readers can join in the fun. That way, we can all easily find each other.

It’s like you’ve looked in on my busy calendar this week that is between two weeks with few plans and knew I needed this reminder.
Kristen says
Then apparently our calendars are twins. Love you, Kristin.

Kristen,
I am great at whipping myself into a frenzy trying to please everyone and keep everyone happy. Though I know this is not possible, I still try anyway…silly me!! Thank you for the reminder to bend my ear toward God instead of bending over backward till I snap! I know the comma after” Be still, and know that I am God” is there intentionally to get us to pause after the “Be still,” part. Some days I have to pause a long time until this racing mind will be still. As always, thank you for a timely reminder!!
With gratitude and love,
Bev
Kristen says
Oh yes…thank you for pointing out that small but important comma. Adding that punctuation to my daily repertoire. I appreciate you, Bev!
