Hoity-toity restaurants ain’t got nothin’ on the Strong family this Valentine’s Day.
We have fancy wine glasses.
We have heart shaped donuts.
We have fondu (cheese and chocolate, thank you).
And we have the Lego movie family date night. What more could you want?
Well, I can think of an idea or three, and maybe one (or more!) of these will appeal to beautiful you.
If you and Valentine’s Day aren’t exactly simpatico in the traditional sense, then I have the perfect way for you to participate in the holiday without tripping your Kay Jewelers, every kiss begins with Kay gag reflex.
Fall in love with the world next door. My friend Lisa-Jo lives in the DC area but hails from South Africa. Today, Lisa-Jo kicks-off a 4 phase project that will build a community center that serves 400 people (250 orphans and vulnerable kids) in her native country.
“The crazy hope is to raise $150,000 to fund the entire project between Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day – because love is more than a date on the calendar and it never leaves anyone out.” ~Lisa-Jo Baker
Yes and amen and glory be.
Today begins phase 1 of the project, where Lisa-Jo invites us to help raise $5,000 to build a community vegetable garden. Carrots are the new roses, y’all. You can support this effort in two ways: First, just click right here to learn more and make your own donation.
OR
Kashon of Krafty Kash is offering three beautiful necklaces to help support phase 1 of the building project. For every necklace ordered, $12 of your purchase will go to fund the community garden. Look pretty and love on others? That’s a Valentine’s Day win-win.
Some love for the military wives. Every whipstitch I get emails from military folks or loved ones of military folks asking me for suggested resources. And then a couple weeks ago, I visited Aprille’s totally awesome “resource and encouragement for military wives” page and became inspired to make a military resource page, too. You can find my resource page here. Feel free to share it with whom you’d like, and if you have suggestions for books/websites/articles I’m missing, then by all means please share your suggestions with me in the comments.
