The sun has set on a little over a week of Empty Nesting after Christmas vacation. Recently, while having lunch with friends, David and I joked about how from time to time we pretend that the kids are still in their rooms, either taking a nap or listening to music or doing their homework. (Let us have just a *little* denial!) While we both agree that the whole empty/changing nest thing has been hard to get used to, we also agree that giving our goodbyes this time around wasn't quite as difficult as it was before.⁠ My own mood took a dip rather than the drop of last summer.⁠

My husband and I genuinely love (and like!) to be together, yet it still takes time for the new normal of a quiet house to feel normal. And thanks to the Lord's kindness and mercy working through time, the new normal is feeling good, too.⁠

This first week of the New Year brought to you by Texas Tortilla Soup, the book Mr. Dickens and His Carol, some found fudge in the freezer, Yellowstone viewing, and such an abundance of heavy snow that's sticking around, I wonder if we once again live in Ohio rather than in Colorado.⁠ It *is* mighty pretty though! And with my girl still home on Christmas break, it's tricking me into thinking I should still be on Christmas break, too. ⁠(Alas, work says otherwise!)
